Size U.S. 11 (8 mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
The instructions are written for smallest size.

Cast on 53 (57-61) sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end
of row.
2nd row: P1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of
Rep these 2 rows 3 more times.
Beg with a knit row, proceed in stocking st
until work from beg measures 5 (6-6)” [12.5
(15-15) cm], ending on a purl row.
Shape crown: 1st row: (RS): K1. *K2tog. K2.
Rep from * to end of row. 40 (43-46) sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: Knit.
5th row: K1. *K2tog. K1. Rep from * to end of
row. 27 (29-31) sts.
7th row: Knit.
9th row: K1. *K2tog. Rep from * to end of row.
14 (15-16) sts.
10th row: K0 (1-0). *K2tog. Rep from * to end
of row. 7 (8-8) sts.
Break yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end
through rem sts. Draw up and fasten securely.
Sew back seam. Sew Pompom onto top of Hat.
To fit Child 6/10 years (Woman-
Man) with 21 (22½-24)” [53.5 (57-
61) cm] head circumference.
11 sts and 14 rows = 4” [10 cm]
in stocking st.
